Approximately six months ago we completed a Vision Refining Exercise (VRE). Through the VRE process, our congregation identified our mission, vision and core values. The ultimate result of this exercise was the development of a Five-Year Strategic Ministry Plan for
The Strategic Ministry Plan identifies ministry initiatives in four key areas: Reaching Out, Growing Stronger, Serving Together and Developing Facilities. To facilitate the accomplishment of the ministry initiatives, we have formed a number of Ministry Teams made-up of volunteers from our congregation. These teams have been working hard and much has been accomplished.
On Sunday, May 21, we presented a Progress Report on our key ministry initiatives (Reaching Out, Growing Stronger, Serving Together and Developing Facilities). Bill Robson of Robson Group Architects shared with the church a conceptual proposal for maximizing the usability of our current property which would allow us to grow and reach more people. He reminded us that this is a preliminary design which must be approved through a special exception in zoning. Ultimately, the Town Council has the final say and approval. Click here to see a block diagram of the proposed plan.
Mr. Robson’s proposal calls for a three level building to be constructed behind and connected to our existing church building. The ground level of the new building would consist of a new auditorium with a seating potential of 250-350 people. The basement level would include a large fellowship hall with a commercial kitchen for banquets and other large gatherings. The second floor above the auditorium would contain space enough for several classrooms. The proposal also called for future phases of the project which would add additional classrooms to the east and south ends of our existing building. Included in those rooms would be a new “Prophet’s Chamber” or mission’s apartment for visiting missionaries and preachers.
It is our plan to submit the special exception application to the Leesburg Zoning Commission by the end of the summer or early fall. For us to meet this goal, we will need $30-35,000 dollars to pay for the drawings, fees and consulting necessary to submit the zoning application. Many have expressed that we should pay-as-we-go through this zoning process. To do this we are asking everyone to make a financial commitment for the next 6 months to the Building Fund. This commitment should be above our current giving to the General Fund and Missions. Several have already made commitments totaling approximately $10,000. Enclosed you will find a Building for the Future commitment card. If you have not already done so, would you prayerfully consider making a commitment to the Building Fund over the next 6 months? You can contribute weekly or monthly, or give a one-time gift. You may turn the commitment card into the church office or place it into the offering plate over the next two weeks.

On Sunday, May 28, Mr. Leonard McDonald, who was saved through the early ministry of LBT while we were still without a building and meeting in the High School, gave a powerful testimony of the power of prayer and the power of God working through His people to purchase our current facilities 30 years ago. Even though he has been retired for many years, Mr. McDonald wanted to be one of the first to give a significant amount to the Building Fund. He encouraged all of us to be involved in this project, he emphasized that it can be done by God’s grace. Let’s do this not just for our generation, but for generations to come!
Please pray with me for God’s wisdom and guidance, and that we might know clearly His will concerning improvements to our current facilities. Also pray that He would influence the minds and hearts of the Zoning Commission members and the Town Council according to His Will. February 2008 Update
We are please to update that the town's approval process is halfway complete. We have submitted our plans for the town's comments and are now moving forward with our first Planning Commission hearing. This hearing is open to the public. It is schedule for 7:00 p.m. on March 6. It will be held in the Leesburg Council Chamber on the 2nd floor of Town Hall.
